The Transitional Justice Institute (TJI), the International Conflict Research Institute (INCORE) and the Institute for Research in Social Sciences (IRISS) at Ulster University will host a one-day postgraduate conference on ‘Masculinities, Violence and (Post-) Conflict’ in the Belfast campus.
This student led event will offer academic presentations, peer discussion, networking opportunities and expert feedback in a supportive environment.

The lecture was given on the 9th of September 2013 by Ms. Margot Wallstrm, former Under-Secretary-General and United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary general on Sexual Violence in Conflict.
On the 30th of August we organize a second interdisciplinary Young Researchers’ Seminar on Masculinities and Violence at the University of Antwerp.
Our guest speaker is Professor Jeff Hearn from Hanken School of Economics (Finland), rebro University (Sweden), and the University of Huddersfield (UK). Professor Hearn is a well-known specialist in masculinities studies and will talk about “Men, masculinities and violence: how changing patriarchal men and masculinities might change violence”.
The lecture will be held in the morning, 10.30-12.00 There will be time for questions, discussion, and coffee.
In the afternoon, 13.30-16.00, participants will be able to discuss their own research and questions with Professor Hearn and the rest of the group, provided that they have previously submitted a resume of maximum 3 pages of their research / questions no later than 2 weeks before the seminar.
The seminar is free but registration is required. Please register at the latest on 30th of June by mailing Asa.Ekvall@ua.ac.be. When registering please provide three lines on your research interest. The event will take place at the City Campus: M-building (Sint Jacobstraat 2). We provide for a light lunch.
The seminar is organized by the University of Antwerp Research Groups on Citizenship, Gender and Diversity (Department of Political Science), on Media, Policy and Culture (Department of Communication), on Modern Literature (Department of Literature), and on Political History (Department of History), in cooperation with Sophia, the Belgian network on gender studies.
